APT hackers set honey traps to snare victims – Sunday in safety with Tony Anscombe


Calls to move online conversations to supposedly more secure platforms may not be as well-intentioned as they sound

Have you ever been asked to move your online conversations to another – and supposedly more secure – platform? This technique, often used by romance scammers, was recently used against a number of Indian and Pakistani netizens, possibly with military or political backgrounds. The targeted campaign – belonging to the APT group Transparent Tribe and described in detail by ESET researchers earlier this week – is distributing the CapraRAT backdoor via trojan-safe messaging and calling apps branded MeetsApp and MeetUp.
