Canadian Government Awards $51 Million CAD ($37M USD) in Quantum Grants to 75 Recipients
The award was given by Canadian Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC). The awards are provided by four different classes of funding opportunity programs:
- Alliance Quantum Grant for a total of $6 million awarded to eight projects for medium-scale in-country research partnerships between one or more academic researchers and organizations in the private, public or not-for-profit sector.
- Alliance Consortia Quantum Grant $38 million was awarded to eight projects for large-scale domestic research partnerships in quantum science and technology with the aim of linking quantum research to industrial applications and government needs.
- Alliance International Quantum Grant nearly $1.4 million was awarded to 56 projects to encourage the establishment and development of international research collaborations between international groups and Canadian researchers.
- That Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program award of $5 million to three teams for quantum workforce development.
This award was created as part of Canada National Quantum Strategy which has a 2021 Budget allocating $360 Million CAD ($266M USD) to provide advanced training for prospective graduate and postdoctoral workers, promote research collaboration both domestically and internationally, and to secure Canada’s leadership in quantum science and technology.
