Snapchat Influencer Turns Simps Into Cash Using Doppelganger AI
The 23-year-old Snapchat personality appears to be following in SimpDAO’s footsteps by introducing herself as an AI-based version of boyfriend via the OpenAI ChatGPT chatbot.
Caryn Marjorie, the influencer in question, has 1.84 million Snapchat users and 215,000 Instagram followers.
CarynAI is a project created by Forever Voices that used over 2,000 hours of audio from Marjorie’s deleted YouTube videos to create a virtual boyfriend. It is available in both text and audio formats, with AI that closely mimics a real voice and speech habits.
According to material obtained by Fortune and cited in the May 10 article, the initiative had 1,000 registrants during the first week of the initial beta, which ended Tuesday.
Users pay around $1 per minute of interaction with CarynAI, and the project has generated $71,610 during the early beta. Marjorie also told Fortune that she intended to make about $5 million monthly in the future, since she only needed 20,000 customers from her massive following.
“Whether you need someone to comfort or love, or you just want to rant about something that happened at school or at work, CarynAI will always be there for you,” he told Fortune, adding that “you can have endless reaction possibilities with CarynAI — so anything is really possible with conversations.
Blockchain analyst Eric Wall coined the term SimpDAO to represent crypto/NFT ventures founded by influencers/celebrities with large followings. These followers end up going out of their way — in terms of time, money, and decentralized groups — to ensure the success of their favorite character’s endeavors.
Marjorie appears to be pioneering new techniques for engaging and monetizing loyal followers through the use of AI. Discussions about AI girlfriends are becoming more common as AI chat bots grow in popularity, thanks in part to the free access to ChatGPT.
A brief Google search yielded a website ranking the “Top 10 Best AI Boyfriend Apps to Customize virtual companions in 2023”, as well as stories of a current trend among Replicate bot users where men happily abuse their virtual girlfriends.
