Sony Innovation Fund Invests in Quantum Motion
We reported that last February Quantum Motion have received £42 million ($50.5 million USD) of venture funding to continue development of their spin qubit based processor. They have now announced that the Sony Innovation Fund has joined the round. This is the first quantum investment from Sony Investment Fund. Apart from money, Sony could provide additional assistance to Quantum Motion in the future due to their deep experience in CMOS semiconductor design and manufacturing and helping them gain access to the Japanese market. Quantum Motion was founded in 2017 by Professor John Morton of University College London and Professor Simon Benjamin of the University of Oxford to develop a quantum processor based on spin qubit technology and manufactured using a high volume semiconductor process. A press release announcing the Sony Innovation Fund as the new investor has been posted on the Quantum Motion website and can be viewed Here.
