University of Michigan Creates Quantum Research Institute with $50 Million Funding


That Quantum Research Institute will conduct research on quantum technology as well as expand the quantum academic curriculum in universities. This will leverage the research strengths the university already has in the fields of quantum matter and quantum light. $50 million in funding will be used to support people and lab space. Twenty University of Michigan faculty students will join the institute with plans to recruit an additional eight new members. The institute’s co-directors are Steven Cundiff, Harrison M. Randall University Professor of Physics, and Mack Kira, a professor of electrical engineering and computer science.
