PRESS RELEASE — Quantinuum, the world’s largest integrated quantum computing company, announced the launch of Quantum Origin Onboard, an innovation in cryptographic key generation that provides quantum computing-enhanced cyber protection for connected devices by maximizing the power of the key generated within the device itself.

The risk of cyberattacks harming organizations continues to increase. As cybercriminals uncover new techniques to exploit connected systems and their data, even the cryptographic bases of cybersecurity measures remain vulnerable to advanced threats. Cryptographic keys are generated using today’s typical methods used by organizations around the world proved unpredictable, exposing encrypted data and systems to the potential risk of devastating attacks. Quantinuum’s proven quantum computing-hardened cryptographic key enhancement solution minimizes business-generated risks and uses vulnerable encryption keys to protect encrypted data.

“While quantum computing has the potential to render current encryption algorithms obsolete, posing a significant challenge to businesses and individuals, today’s sophisticated attackers can take advantage of vulnerable encryption keys” said Dr. Rajeeb Hazra, CEO of Quantinuum. “With our Quantum Origin Onboard and the entire Quantum Origin platform, organizations can strengthen defenses across multiple endpoints and embrace the possibilities of a quantum secure future. The next era of data security has arrived, and we are proud to be at the forefront as we collaborate with organizations around the world.”

Strengthen encryption at the device level

Quantum Origin Onboard is the first and only commercially available enterprise software solution capable of delivering key enhancements powered by quantum computing. It can be installed directly onto the device and used to help provide unrivaled base-level protection. Quantum Origin Onboard delivers state-of-the-art, enterprise-grade security that integrates directly into connected devices without the need for additional hardware upgrades. This unique approach ensures that devices in any environment, online or offline, can generate keys hardened by quantum computing to continuously maximize the strength of the encryption measures that protect the device.

Quantum Origin Onboard embeds a quantum seed, created by a Quantinuum H-series quantum computer, into the device. A seed is a series of numbers that proves unpredictable, which enhances a device’s ability to generate strong and secure keys.

“Enterprises recognize that they can build unprecedented resilience by adopting quantum computing-hardened cryptographic keys,” said Duncan Jones, Head of Cybersecurity at Quantinuum. “This is a paradigm shift, and enterprises in critical industries are embracing opportunities to minimize risk to any of their attack surfaces, particularly device-level encryption on internet-connected products that may be in the field for a decade.”

A growing security threat to embedded devices

The increasing use of connected devices continues to support innovation across industries, from critical infrastructure to healthcare to transportation to energy. As adoption increases, cybercriminals are increasingly targeting vulnerable devices that are connected to each other, causing mass disruptions. One of the best-known examples of IoT-based attack power is the Mirai malware which infected IP cameras and basic home routers, created a botnet that compromised leading Domain Name System providers, rendering many well-known websites inaccessible.

Quantum Origin Onboard embeds industry-leading security capabilities into connected devices, to strengthen device security against advanced cyber attacks, by minimizing exploitable cyber vulnerabilities. As the only software solution of its kind, it simplifies deployment and provides seamless key generation for connected devices and the data they manage.
