The biotech event to attend in Southeast Asia this year
The Southeast Asian biotech industry is one to be reckoned with. The growth of the biotech industry in the region has made countries such as Singapore and Thailand leading players in the commercialization of pharmaceuticals, thanks to an increased emphasis on research and development.
As governments in eleven countries introduced policies encouraging biopharmaceutical research, with the Singapore government investing billions of dollars into the country’s biomedical clusters, Southeast Asia appeared to be gaining a foothold on a global scale. Countries such as Vietnam, which has a growing vaccine development sector, are also making headway in other biopharma fields.
The recent Analytica Vietnam 2023 conference held in April was considered a success as it attracted a large number of participants who joined workshops and discussions ranging from biopharmaceuticals, clean energy and food safety. In this article, let’s see what else is available; four biotech events in Southeast Asia to watch out for this year.
Asia Pacific Bio
Set to last from September 6 to September 8 this year, Asia Pacific Bio is an annual exhibition platform for the biotechnology and life sciences industries. This year it was held at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Center (BITEC) in the Thai capital, Bangkok, a major destination for medical tourism.
Having been a key player in the growth of the analytical laboratory instruments market in the Asia Pacific region for 11 years, this year, there will be exhibitions from fields such as biotech, medtech, precision medicine and even digital health.
Hosting more than 8000 trade visitors, the platform saw enthusiastic participation from the food and beverage industry last year, where China topped the list of international contributors, followed by Malaysia and Singapore. In 2023, more than 2500 delegates will attend the conference and more than one hundred speakers will attend.
Like last year, Bio Asia Pacific is collaborating with Thailand Lab International which is engaged in laboratory equipment technology. Various start-up entrepreneurs can take advantage of this opportunity to showcase their projects, with 60% of them being commissioned to exhibit scientific laboratory equipment.
In addition, Bio Asia Pacific has joined forces with FutureChem International and the Science and Technology Trade Association (STTA) to further expand the VNU Carbon Neutrality 2040 project, which, as the name suggests, is an initiative to tackle the climate crisis and aims to become carbon neutral by 2040. As Part of this, more than 10,000 trees were planted by the organization with the hope that they will continue to contribute towards a sustainable future.
International Conference on Science, Technology, Engineering & Management
Held in the city of Ipoh, in Malaysia, the International Conference on Science, Technology, Engineering & Management (ICSTEM) will be held on July 3 and 4 this year. It is a networking forum for budding researchers and students looking to set foot in the science and technology industry.
Attended by scientists, industrialists, meteorologists, students, environmental engineering consultants and NGOs part of the scientific community, ICSTEM organized an award ceremony involving prizes for the best presentations and exhibitions in the program. The 9 to 5 event will feature keynote speakers from various fields sharing their research as well as poster presentations describing their projects, with an interactive question and answer session at the end of each demonstration.
This event will not only be an opportunity to connect with experts in the industry, but also to exchange ideas with like-minded people and participate in discussions that can open up new career paths, especially when foraying into the industry.
Making it more accessible and convenient for people around the world, conferences can also be streamed online.
ICSTEM, which is part of the Yanjiu Conference, works closely with organizations that include International Scientific Indexing, Springer, and Orcid, among others.
World Conference on Biosciences and Biotechnology
The Eurasia Conference returns for the fourth time to host it World Conference on Biosciences and Biotechnology in Bangkok. Taking place on November 16 and 17, the event will feature scholars from around the world presenting their latest research, in an effort to promote collaboration.
With a mission to engage in climate action and spark research towards sustainable development, the theme of this year’s conference is “Exploring the Limits of Bioscience and Biotechnology: Innovation and Applications for a Sustainable Future”. The theme reflects current steps in bioscience and biotechnology in addressing global challenges such as climate change, food security and health care.
With panel discussions and presentations, the convention has previously been attended by microbiologists, geneticists, biologists, agricultural scientists, environmental scientists, virologists, academics, biotechnology associations, as well as regulators and policy makers. Since this is a hybrid event, it will be attended by participants from all over the world.
Topics range from animal biotech, biochemistry, bioinformatics, bioenergy to cancer therapy, genomics, synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, translational medicine, stem cell-based drug discovery and even molecular diagnostics, so there is something for everyone in the fields of biotech and science. life.
International Conference on Animal Biotechnology and Reproduction
Animal biotechnology is a branch that involves the use of molecular biology techniques to genetically engineer animals for agricultural, pharmaceutical and industrial purposes. With global market valued at $22.66 billion by 2021, the sizable animal biotechnology industry will grow by 9.2% annually. The International Conference on Animal Biotechnology and Reproduction in Phnom Penh in Cambodia will examine the importance of this industry on a global scale.
Organized by the World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology, the convention will host discussions on stem cell and microbial products, recombinant medicine, gene editing, animal cloning transgenesis, and gene therapy.
It will also look at strategies for increasing disease resistance, discussing the ethical implications of genetic engineering as well as solutions to address this problem.
The event, which will take place on November 11 and 12, will connect business actors in the field to forge bonds and provide opportunities for the public to showcase and sell their products.
