PRESS RELEASE — Eviden, the Atos business, and Alice & Bob today announced a partnership to make Alice & Bob’s patented cat qubit technology accessible to end users on QaptivaTM, Eviden’s quantum app development platform.
Pioneered by Alice & Bob, cat qubits are a promising approach to solving quantum computing’s biggest problem: computational errors. Their innovative hardware-efficient design will reduce the hardware requirements for fault-tolerant quantum computers by up to 60 times compared to other qubit technologies.
By featuring Alice & Bob’s cat qubits as emulation targets, Eviden takes the QaptivaTM application development platform towards fault-tolerant quantum computing.
Users can now learn how to use the bias noise of cat qubits to implement quantum error correction, an important mechanism for avoiding the noise that plagues all quantum computers.
The power of QaptivaTM allows one to experiment with cat qubits and mimic architectural behavior by creating multiple logical qubits, each created with multiple physical qubits. Qubit Cat will also be supported as a compilation target to enhance current quantum algorithms. Access to real quantum computers featuring cat qubits and optimized compilations will be available in the future.
The partnership highlights the vitality of the French quantum ecosystem, featuring 5 major hardware manufacturers, major software and cloud players, strong government support and a state-of-the-art end-user enterprise.
Théau Peronnin, CEO at Alice & Bob: “We are excited to partner with Eviden and take our customers to the future of quantum computing: error correction and fault tolerance. We are on a mission to break away from decoherence, and QaptivaTM is the perfect platform to demonstrate how this can be achieved.”
Cédric Bourrasset, Global Head of HPC-AI and Quantum Computing at Eviden, Atos Group: “The QaptivaTM platform enables our customers to explore the rich world of quantum computing technology, and today’s additions make it richer than ever. Alice & Bob’s cat qubits are fascinating building blocks for fault-tolerant quantum computers.”
