The real-time demo of atomic-scale imaging of a topological insulator surface at the APS March meeting, in a street-level setting essentially running a cryogenic compressor was outstanding.

All the physicists going by and filming it didn’t make any difference… Very impressive! Having worked with STM for several years, I can clearly appreciate this great achievement from RHK Technologies. I am absolutely confident in our choice…. Custom built mK STM/c-AFM from RHK.

Our laboratory has a strong interest in investigating energy transport at the nanoscale. The RHK UHV STM in our lab is the main tool that has allowed us to carry out a number of important studies recently.

For example, we have made the first measurements of heat transfer at atomic junctions (L. Cui et al., Science (2017)) and demonstrated how quantum properties are observed even at room temperature at atomic junctions. Recently, we have further improved our technique to investigate thermal transport at single molecule junctions (L. Cui et al., Nature (2019)).

I should point out that this progress was made possible by RHK’s willingness to work with us on designing the STM scanner specifically to accommodate the probes we nano built in Michigan. Students who have graduated from my cohort and moved into independent academic positions are also considering purchasing RHK instruments for their future work.
